Romantic Day Trip Ideas

If you cannot get away for an entire vacation with your loved one, you might be able to sneak away just for the day. Think about romantic places within a two-hour drive of your home. That will allow you to get to your destination, share a special day and drive back home, all in the same day.

Wine Tasting

More than 4,000 wineries are spread across the continental United States. so there might be one near you. Check with a winery to see when its tasting room is open and where it is located. Ask if any special events such as tours, luncheons or dinners are served on the property. Tour the vineyards and sample some of the vintages. As a souvenir you can purchase a bottle of wine to share back home.

Federal or State Parks

If you are a couple that enjoys spending time outdoors, visit a national or state park. Aside from activities such as hiking and swimming, you can make the trip more romantic by packing a picnic lunch. Lay out a blanket or tablecloth, bring a couple of candles, and some music. Take a horseback ride at sunset or rent a canoe. If the park stays open after dusk, build a fire, cook food and gaze at the stars before heading home.

Dinner and a Show

Purchase tickets to the latest theater show and combine it with dinner at a nearby restaurant. On the day of the show, visit historical sites, museums, or stores. Many theater shows run matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays. This gives you the option of seeing the show before or after a nice lunch or dinner.

Sporting Event

If you're fanatic about a particular sports team, buy tickets to the big game. Before heading to the stadium or arena, pack a tailgate picnic that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages or steaks. Side dish ideas include macaroni salad, cole slaw, and grilled vegetables. Once at the site, set up a grill behind your vehicle. Enjoy your meal before the game. Surprise your loved one with a hat, T-shirt, sweatshirt or jersey from a favorite team.
