Romantic Vacation Spots in North Carolina

If you are interested in rekindling a romance or are seeking a unique place to visit for your honeymoon, North Carolina may be the ideal destination for you. The state boasts several romantic destinations--from natural wonders to beautifully designed man-made structures--that are worth considering for your romantic trip.

Asheville

Located in western North Carolina, the quaint city of Asheville is one of North Carolina's romantic vacation destinations. The city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the French Broad and the Swannanoa Rivers meet. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, biking, canoeing, rafting, tubing and horseback riding, or couples can explore the culture of downtown Asheville, which boasts many museums, restaurants, galleries and shops. One of Asheville's most romantic offerings is the Biltmore Estate, a top American tourist attraction and the largest privately owned residence in the country. You can tour the 250-room French-Renaissance-style mansion and its 8,000 acres of land and gardens or take a tour of the Biltmore Winery and taste some of their select reserves. You can even stay in either the Inn on Biltmore Estate or the Cottage on Biltmore Estate, where you and your partner can enjoy pampering as if you were one of the Vanderbilts.

The Outer Banks

Another romantic vacation spot is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Outer Banks is comprised of 200 miles of barrier islands--including Bodie Island, Hatteras Island and Roanoke Island--that begin on the coast of southern Virginia and extend halfway down the coast of North Carolina. You and your sweetheart can enjoy the sun and surf on the white sandy beaches, go kayaking or horseback riding along the shore. If you're more adventurous, consider parasailing, scuba diving or surfing. Other area attractions include several lighthouses, museums, dining and nature parks. There are a variety of options for romantic accommodations along the 200-mile stretch of islands, including hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts.

Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island is a semi-tropical island that is situated 2 miles off the southern coast of North Carolina and can only be reached by boat. You and your partner can enjoy a romantic vacation by taking the beauty that surrounds this car-free island and enjoying some of the simple pleasures the island has to offer. Swim, go crabbing or just relax on the pristine beaches. Explore the creeks and marshes by kayak. You and your travel companion also can enjoy golfing or a game of tennis. Whether you and your sweetheart prefer an active or relaxing vacation, Bald Head Island provides you with a romantic setting to do either. The boutique-style Marsh Harbour Inn will add to your romance-filled vacation, as it features luxurious accommodations and views of the island.
