The Great Outdoors
If outdoor activities with your sweetheart are on your agenda, prepare for an afternoon of kayaking, canoeing or fishing. Anderson Lake County Park in nearby San Jose, Calif., allows the use of powered boats and personal watercraft as well as canoes, kayaks and tubes. There are many opportunities to enjoy the water. One word of caution: If you or your date cannot swim, do not enter the water without a life preserver. Otherwise your day of entertainment could end in tragedy.
If the two of you are inquisitive and enjoy learning about history, nature and research, pay a visit to the History San Jose Museum to view various exhibits that feature regional historical artifacts and collections. The NASA Ames Exploration Center provides exhibits from the Ames Research Center and opportunities for hands-on experiences of NASA technology, all free of charge. This facility also houses the largest immersive theater on the West Coast, providing panoramic views of outer space and its entities.
Maybe a sporting event is more your speed. Purchase tickets to see the San Jose Sharks NHL hockey team in advance and surprise your date. Get caught up in the excitement, sip cold sodas and munch on buttery popcorn. San Jose is also home to the San Jose Giants minor league baseball team. If you prefer to go low-key, make plans to visit a batting cage, roller blade through the streets of Silicon Valley or shoot hoops at a local recreation center, such as Ryland Park.
For a couple who has been dating for some time, a more romantic date may be in order. Surprise her with an overnight reservation at the Mediterranean-themed Hotel Los Gatos, which is seated at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Enjoy a couple’s massage, dine in the upscale on-site restaurant and retreat to an elegantly decorated suite to sip chilled wine. Sample the continental breakfast delivered to your room, followed by a complimentary wine tasting at a local Los Gatos winery. Rates start at $199 per night.
