Wash your hair.
Use a moisturizing shampoo or a shampoo that is made for curly hair. Curly hair is drier than straight or wavy hair, thus you need to give it the moisture it craves. These shampoos contain moisturizing ingredients such as shea butter or vitamin E.
Add a moisturizing conditioner to your hair.
Use a conditioner with ingredients such as shea butter, olive oil and vitamin E. Follow the directions on the label for the amount of time to leave the conditioner in your hair. Rinse your hair with warm water.
Dry your hair with a towel.
Use heat appliances as little as possible, because they can dry out your strands and cause splits in the hair shaft. Simply squeeze the water out of your hair with the towel. Don't rub your hair with the towel because this can lead to frizz.
Apply leave-in conditioner to your hair.
Run a wide-tooth comb through your hair and apply conditioner to 2-inch sections of hair. Pour conditioner onto your palm and smooth it down the hair shaft, starting an inch from the scalp.
Apply a gel to your hair.
This will prevent frizz and hold your style in place. Use a gel that does not contain alcohol because alcohol is drying to the hair. Pour the gel into your palm and rub your fingers together. Then apply the gel to 2-inch sections of hair. Start an inch from the scalp and move your palm down the hair shaft.
Make a side part with your comb from the front of your hair to the back.
Do not comb through the rest of your hair. Let it dry naturally. You do not want it to frizz.
Pull your hair behind your ear, to the same side as the part.
Twist the hair into a ponytail and secure the ponytail with an elastic band. Run your fingers through the bottom of the ponytail one time. This will pull the curls apart without causing frizz.
Pull a tiny section of hair from each side of your face.
Twist each piece of hair so it looks like a long rope and spray a light mist of alcohol-free hairspray on it.
