Jacksonville is located along Interstate 95 in northeastern Florida and boasts 21 miles of beaches. The city was once known as the "Winter Film Capital of the World" because its year-round balmy weather was especially important to early silent film makers, as their shooting schedules depended on sunlight. Spend a warm, romantic evening at some of the city's events---many of which are free. These events even make Jacksonville a destination for couples from nearby states like Georgia and South Carolina, who come to the area seeking a romantic getaway.
Jacksonville Jazz Festival
The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is an annual four-day event held each May in downtown Jacksonville. The event is free and has entertainment on multiple stages. Many couples make the yearly pilgrimage to the Jacksonville Jazz Festival to spend time together and be wooed and romanced by the sounds of the artists. Herbie Hancock, Natalie Cole and Eddie Palmieri are some of the jazz icons who have graced the stage at this festival. You can also find hotel packages that include brunch and drink packages for the weekend. A concurrent art and crafts festival and wine tastings are held in downtown Jacksonville.
Summer Jazz Series
For couples who want to avoid large crowds, jazz concerts are held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. one Sunday each month from June through August. All jazz concerts are held at the Sea Walk Pavilion at 75 North 1st Street in Jacksonville Beach. The pavilion has grass seating for jazz fans to grab a blanket and come listen to the sounds of regional and national recording artists.
Moonlight Movie Series at Jacksonville Beach
Couples can lay by the ocean under the stars and enjoy the Moonlight Movie Series at Jacksonville Beach. Classic movies are shown four times a year---twice in May and twice in June. The movies begin at 9 p.m. and are free. Many couples bring either a blanket or beach chairs and have a picnic.
