What He Does Say and Doesn't Say
Most guys have a hard time admitting they like someone. However, if you think your guy friend might be interested in you, the things he says can be the clue. For example, pay attention to how he reacts when you talk about other guys. If he always says that the other person isn't good enough for you or says he doesn't like the other guy, it can mean he's jealous and wants you for himself. In addition, pay attention to what he doesn't say. If he likes you, he probably won't ever talk about other girls. In this way he's subconsciously showing you he's available.
The Eyes Have It
Eyes have been called the window to the soul; they can also be a key indicator if your guy friend is interested in you. When a man is attracted to a woman, he often can't keep his eyes off of her and she becomes the center of his attention. Confident guys will meet your eyes for a few seconds longer than necessary while shy guys will look away then look back again a short time later. Either way, according to body language expert Traci Brown, eye contact is a sure sign of connection. Some of your guy friend's eye indicators are more subconscious. When a man feels sexual attraction, his pupils often widen and his eyes grow shiny says dating coach Peter Spalton, in his article "Signs of Sexual Attraction." So, if you notice that your friend's eyes light up when you are talking to him, it's a good sign that he has feelings for you.
When it comes to attraction, actions can speak louder than words. A guy often lets you know he's interested in you through non-sexual touches. He hugs you, touches your back, or puts his arm around your shoulder. This shows that he is growing more comfortable with you and probably has feelings for you. When a man is attracted to a woman he tends to lean forward when she speaks, closing the distance between them. He also relaxes his shoulders and turns his body in her direction. Pay careful attention to his feet, says Brown. If they're pointed toward you while you're talking, it shows he's interested.
How You Spend Your Time Together
You can also gauge your guy friend's true feelings for you by evaluating how you spend your time together. If you do a lot of things together that dating couples do, it can be a sign that he wants to take things to the next level. For example, attending weddings as each other's date or going on picnics together can be considered romantic and could be his way of letting you know he has romantic feelings. This is also true if he spends time with you doing big favors or going that extra mile to help you out. If he drops everything he's doing to help you solve a problem, he might be interested in a dating relationship.
